Utes pick up some help in the back court. Justin Bibbins is a Long Beach State grad transfer and is eligible immediately.

Some highlights from two seasons ago.

We just landed a commitment from Justin Bibbins, a grad transfer from Long Beach State. He is a 5'8 point guard who had some really good games against our fellow pac-12 members thsi past year. 13 points, 5 assists per game. Money from the line and mostly a 40+% shooter from downtown.

And, Bibbins seems to have good handles and passing skills. We need those.

  4. #244
Great news. PG is a real need.

    Next year:

    Bibbins 1
    Barefield 1,2
    PVD 2
    Bealer 2,3
    Tillman 3,4
    Seeley 3,4
    Rawson 4,5
    Collette 5
    Johnson 5
    Jokl 5
    Kuzma (maybe) 3,4

2 spots left if Kuzma returns, 3 if he doesn't.

Rawson -- hopeful he can improve his shooting consistency and defense. Be a real "stretch" 4.
Jokl -- hopeful he becomes more than just a warm body.

    Classic photo.

Bibbins had more rebounds than turnovers last year.

Apropos of nothing. Found this video of Justin Bibbins in high school. And, Dakarai Tucker' Serra High was the opponent. Unfortunately, Bibbins was posterized.

Sounds like Ty Lazenby has committed to Oklahoma. Was scheduled to visit us early next week.

He's from OK, so I guess that makes sense.

    Makes for an awkward visit.

3* freshman guard who won 2 slam dunk contests---type of player Utes need to build program.

1 spot left----maybe a transfer who has to sit out?? Jackson or Jeter would be great.

Interesting. An athletic player who appears to have some handle, have a jumper, and have some craftiness to his game. And, he switched his TDS commitment. Other notable offers from USC, OU, SMU, and Memphis.

We may not miss Devon Daniels as much as we thought we would.

Averaged 15 points 5+ rebounds and 5.5 assists for Bishop Gorman

Kid is certainly an athlete. Won several dunk contests, and he seems to have a smooth shot

I gotta tell you. I've wasted my last bit of energy worrying about Larry's off season shenanigans. A lot of wasted energy. It isn't my favorite strategy, but Larry gets my benefit of the doubt. This is a good class.

Another interesting thing about Jr's commit is that, if I remember right, his dad is pretty involved in the Vegas AAU programs and high school recruiting. That might prove to be a valuable relationship given the kids Bishop Gorman and Findlay Prep regularly push out.

aha...guess TDS has been recruiting more non-LDS kids than I thought. Thanks.

Great news. Two new guards for next season. Just what we needed.

I like this addition. Utah still has one spot left for certain, two if Kuzma doesn't return and, despite what has been said thus far, I'd have to believe that if they felt like they could upgrade they would kindly allow Jokl to move along to a level more suitable for him. I still think Utah could use another shooter on the wing and an athletic big man. There aren't a ton of options out there but there are still some JCs, transfers and foreigners out there. I'd also be very high on taking either Jackson or Jeter even though they'd have to sit out.

    C-Collette, Johnson, Jokl
    PF-Tillman, Rawson
    SF-Kuzma, Seeley
    SG-Bealer, Barefield, Van Dyke
    PG-Bibbins, Popoola

That's not going to contend with Arizona but it could get us back in the dance.

Most importantly, I think that's more than enough to not feel like we have to dumb down the schedule again. Pay off #1.

If kuzma is gone, we need a power forward. If not, best player available.

IMO, Kuzma's still the #1 "recruit" for this class, but this group gives us a lot of versatility. If Bealer works his ass off on ball handling and get a little stronger, we really have flexibility.

Bibbins can be the changeup that puts pressure on opposing defenses and wreaks havoc on D as a weakside ball hawk, then we can go big/long with Popoola, Bealer, maybe even Kuzma or Seeley at the 3, or have a blend with PVD, Barefield, etc. If Rawson picks up some of Collette's moves, and Jayce keeps working hard and gets stronger, the front line could be decent.

Culture / chemistry and shooting are somewhat unknown, but this team looks really interesting.
