    Season Efficiency 2016-2017

    Welcome to the new season.
Nothing new this year unless you have any suggestions.
I'll try to keep the opponents efficiency top 25 performances vs Utah updated once a week.
I'm also going to only post efficiency scores of those who played, makes things more efficient

If you have anything you'd like me to track that isn't found on ESPN or whatever, just ask.
The score +/- per player is tough for me to track since I don't have that but I can extract whatever numbers we need.

    Got it?
    Let's go.

  2. #2

    Utah 92 NW Nazarene 8 (Utah 81-37) ... Yes 8

    PLAYER EFF +/-
    Kyle Kuzma 37
    Tyler Rawson 20
    Jace Johnson 17
    Gabe Bealer 14
    Devon Daniels 10
    Parker VanDyke 1
    Jakub Jokl 1
    Marc Reininger 0
    Jake Connor 0
    JoJo Zamora -2
    Lorenzo Bonam -6

I apologize for not getting these out sooner, I was in Memphis all week for work.
We'll just buzz by these quickly since there isn't much to see here and nothing to compare to.

  3. #3

    Utah 133 Concordia 41 (Utah 96-53)

    PLAYER EFF +/-
    Devon Daniels 22 +9.0
    Parker VanDyke 21 +9.6

Game 2. Yawn. Utes shoot 53.5%. Only game so far, counting Coppin State

  4. #4

    Utah 126 Coppin St 30 (Utah 94-51)

    PLAYER EFF +/-
    Lorenzo Bonam 25 +8.7
    JoJo Zamora 21 +7.7
    Tyler Rawson 17 -2.0
    Kyle Kuzma 13 -11.3
    Jace Johnson 12 +1.0
    Parker Van Dyke 12 +0.7

    Jakub Jokl 8 +1.3
    Devon Daniels 5 -8.0
    Beau Rydalch 3 --
    Gabe Bealer 0 -9
    Marc Reininger -1 -2.7

Yawn game #3. Utes shot the best game of the season from 3 at 42.9% 12/28.
They also had season highs in assists (22) and steals (9) but they also had a season high in fouls (22)
+96 efficiency was a high for the season but it came against a very tired Coppin St team.

  5. #5

    Utah 110 Coppin State 63 (Utah 85-67)

    PLAYER PER +/-
    Devon Daniels 26 +8.8

Last "exhibition" game. Bring on Butler.

  6. #6

    Butler 77 Utah 45 (Butler 68-59)

Utah Player PER +/- Butler Player PER
    Kyle Kuzma 16 -6.6 Tyler Wideman 16
    Lorenzo Bonam 11 -9.2 Andrew Chrabascz 14
    Devon Daniels 7 -8.6 Tyler Lewis 14
    Tyler Rawson 6 -11.6 Avery Woodson 11
    Jace Johnson 4 -7.4 Kelan Martin 9
Parker Van Dyke 4 -3.0 Henry Baddley 6
    JoJo Zamora -1 -10.0 Kamar Baldwin 4
    Gabe Bealer -2 -8.2 Kethan Savage 1
    Nate Fowler 0
    Sean McDermott 0

The first real test of the season and I give them a C+. Utah won the battle at the free throw line and that's the only thing that kept them in this game.
Utah was +11 free throws made and +35.2% from the charity stripe. Everything else belonged to Butler. Their defense is really good.

The good. Free throws. Utah shot a season high 81.8% from the free throw line 18/22. Utah also had the 2nd most steals in a game (7) vs a really good passing team.
The Utes did a fair job on the boards even though this was the first time they've been outrebounded. They actually had +1 offensive rebounds over Butler.
The Utes were +6 in possessions but scored a season low for possessions at 70, with that said they allowed a season low 64 possessions.
The Utes scores a season high 20.3% of possessions resulted in a turnover. Also Butler didn't score a single block, Utah was +3

The bad. Utah shot terribly from the field. 36.5% was a season low 19/52 (both season lows). 15% from deep 3/20...all season lows.
Utah had a season low in possessions (70), turnovers per possession 25.6% of possessions, 39.1% of all possessions resulted in a score (first time they dropped below 45% all season)
Utah only had 7.7% of all shots scoring an assist and only had 4 assists which is -11 off their average.

You'll noticed I added Butler's efficiency scores, I like that and I think I'll keep doing that.

That form is terrifying. Why has nobody ever corrected that?

    Cal forgot to show up.

The good...Cal only made 12 shots. Utah allows 24.6. Cal only had 3 assists...Utah allows 11.7. Cal had 5.9% of their shots off an assist. 27 efficiency, 0.25 assist to turnover, 35.5% of possessions was a score. Pretty much every Cal stat was the second worst of the season for a UO. Only game 1 NW Nazarene was worse. Utah shot a season high 16/19 84.2% from the line. Average now at 68.7% on the season. Other than that Utah had a fairly average game, Cal just sucked.

The bad....Utah was only 4/20 from deep at 20%. Cal only broke the 30 point barrier because they were 18/23 from the line. Utah has given up 39/51 from the line the last two games. 8 times this season they've allowed 23 free throws or more, twice the past 2 games. Combined both teams season lows in the following 6 three point makes, 118 points, 15.8% three point shooting. 6/38 yikes. Devon Daniels

    That's about it.

Why didn't we have senior season for ZoBo? Dude killed it today.

I'll do a regular season stats next but let's look at the final game.
1st game all season where Utah won the game but lost the efficiency.
They tied vs UVU at 93

The bad...Stanford played a great game and led most of the game. The bad news for them was somebody pissed off Bonam. Stanford shot 53.3% from deep 8/15 which was the 2nd best all year for UO (San Francisco 57.1% ). The Cardinal had 30% of their shots off an assist, Utah allows 20%. Utah only made a 2 point basket on 22.7% of their possessions, season low. Utah averages 35.8% of their possessions getting a 2pt basket. 42.9% shooting for Utah was the worst they've shot in a win.

The good...Utah was +12 in possessions. Utah also had 10 steals (19 in the last 2 games), utah is +10 in steals over the three game win streak. Utah only had 12 fouls average is 16.7. Utah made a three on 16.2% of their possessions, a season high. Utah was 16% vs Stanford the first game. Utah is 7-1 when they score over 14% of their possessions from deep.

Utes didn't need this win for the BYE but they needed this win for a chance at the dance. I think if they make it to the final game (which means beating Oregon) then they get in. Otherwise it's NIT...and that's....ok.
