Hypocrisy and misbehavior among our elites

Despite this excellent op-ed’s title, Douthat doesn’t spare conservatives here:

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."

“True, we [lawyers] build no bridges. We raise no towers. We construct no engines. We paint no pictures - unless as amateurs for our own principal amusement. There is little of all that we do which the eye of man can see. But we smooth out difficulties; we relieve stress; we correct mistakes; we take up other men's burdens and by our efforts we make possible the peaceful life of men in a peaceful state.”

Frankly, given how often it happens, I am to the point now where any rumors like these about a person in power I pretty much accept as fact (Clinton, Weiner, Cosby, Pitino, Ailes, O'Reilly, and now Weinstein). Rumors like this are cockroaches: if you find one, there's probably 100 more like it that are hiding.

The power allows them to behave this way. But don't be fooled, this is a personality type of some very successful men (and probably a few women).

It's a little humorous watching the silence from the Hollywood elite about this issue. They've known forever and likely quite of few of the Hollywood elite women took him up on his offers. Very awful and sad situation.

In medicine and law (the two businesses I know best) the same characteristics that make a person successful in those fields can also make them very difficult to deal with and often they are horrible people. It’s always been interesting to me. It’s a small percentage of the people involved, IMO, and often they are a problem that everyone else just puts up with. Why? Because they generate lots of income. When I see people like that in an organization it tells me an awful lot about the place’s culture and the backbone and values of the leadership.

    Not from The Onion:

Exclusive: Neo-Nazi and National Front organiser quits movement, opens up about Jewish heritage, comes out as gay

At bottom, those guys and the Taliban, ISIS, et al., are almost all frauds and scoundrels.
