The Official Gambling Thread *For Entertainment Purposes Only* (Mostly Football)

Please put here any action or line moves you find interesting:

FYI I use the CG Technology (Caesar's Palace) on www.vegasinsider.com

So Here's the remainder of my baseball bets (I mostly do football) in preparation for football season:

    Cubs over 82.5 wins
    Astros over 74.5 wins
    A's over 81.5 wins
    Rays over 79 wins
    Indians over 83.5 wins

I will go 3-2 with those. My cubs bet was bigger so it became even more profitable.

Here is my first college football bets:

Washington +13 (already moved to +11)
    Ohio St -16
    Alabama -10
    Michigan State -18.5
    Penn St -7
    South Carolina -3

Two team teaser of the week: S. Carolina and Penn St
    HOORAY FOR FOOTBALL!!!!

    Hedge question:
If Ohio St wins by 11 or more I win $26 if they win by 17 or more I win $86 if they win by 23 or more I win $256. How do I hedge that? Could lose $30

Can you actually bet on vegasinsider.com or is it just a site that sells tips and predictions?

Is driving to Wendover the only way to make a bet?

I just use the lines. Yes to legally bet you have to go to Nevada but there have been people who have gone online and bet.
Another way that someone might use if they were not in Nevada is to find a "bookie". For example, you might have a "friend" that runs the book for you. In which you could theoretically send your picks to with a $ amount and they might do the same to you. After that when one of you owes the other a set amount say $100 then you pay pal the amount to the other person and the bank goes to $0

Again though this is just for entertainment purposes.

Every @UnderArmour team won last week. If you would’ve bet $100 money-line parlay on the UA teams would’ve won $29,043

Im guessing the Under Armour thing worked because non one them had black out uniforms. Under armour black out is a horrible jinx in my experience.

Let me add to what MRD is saying.

Nevada books are unequivocally the safest and most reliable methods for sports better. Yes, there are online sites you can use, but buyer beware. Do your homework and see what others are saying about withdrawal methods, ease of cashing out, time it takes to get money in hand, etc. If they're tied in to poker in any way and have the audacity to accept credit cards from U.S. players, don't walk away, but run. The Wire Act's latest interpretation is that it's not illegal to use phone lines to bet on sports, but the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act makes it illegal for banks to process funds from known gaming sites. As a result, publicly traded companies generally prohibit U.S. customers from depositing funds; privately-owned sites are different, but much more shadier, IMO.

Just a little bit about betting in the state of Nevada. You don't need to be present at the sports book to place your bets. Nevada law allows for bets to be made over the phone, within state lines. (Interestingly enough, you can't use your phone with you in the sports book -- on the surface, that doesn't appear to make sense, but it's to combat the sharps who exploit line movement.) You can load your William Hill app/account from any 7-11 in the state. What does the law say about having a third party operating your account from within state lines? Withdrawing money and depositing it into a bank account not located in Nevada? I'm not sure.

On a related note, I think these fantasy sites are walking a thin line. It reminds me of the online poker boom. They're advertising everywhere, there's certainly a large skill aspect to the game, mixed with a little luck. And they're far more audacious in their advertising methods than the poker sites ever were. The poker sites advertised their play money sites, and let the consumer find their way to the pay money sites. Maybe Draft Kings is doing likewise; I honestly haven't paid attention. Not only that, but the NFL has more clout behind it in Washington than the poker sites ever have had or will have. The existence of these fantasy sites is a severe contradiction to how Congress has treated online poker (which targets the banks), and how the Wire Act is currently interpreted (which is geared toward bettors).

You can drive to Mesquite! Much better weather than Wendover during football season.

    Thanks for the tips, SCP.
I'm not a very good gambler (as MRD can attest), but he nailed it on Boise - Washington last week.
I also think Boise is going to win on the road in Provo this week. All of the SportsCenter hype could be a distraction for the byu.

What's the salary for being Uby5's official bookie pay these days? Might be good supplemental income.

So is there a sports book I can call to place a bet (within Nevada)? If I lie and say I'm in Nevada are they likely to know it's a lie?

What is William Hill? Is that a sports book?

I'm pretty new to this stuff, but I'd love to bet on some football.

William Hill is the largest operator of sports books in the state. Most casinos would prefer not to do with the overhead of running it on their own, so they lease the space. William Hill is the largest such leasee of sports book space in the state, and owns a few other books that operate under their original name (Leroy's is the biggest such book I know of). They originate out of Great Britain. Up here in my lonely corner of Northern Nevada, WH has a book at my joint, as well as three kiosks located around town where you can bet and collect 24-7-365.

WH has an app that allows you to make bets on your phone, anywhere in the state. I'm not sure if you have to be a Nevada resident to open an account. At one time, preferred customers at certain books could call in bets provided their number showed up as 702 (or 775) on call ID. Don't know if that's really necessary now, what with WH's mobile app. Would be curious if the Westgate (formerly the LV Hilton and easily the biggest, most recognizable book that's not owned by William Hill) still allows it, or what their mobile offerings are. But yeah, there are more and more options that don't require you to be at the book.

Thank you. I'll have to try this out. Hopefully they don't catch on that I'm in Utah.

Money train took a slight derailing last weekend but is back with a 10-0! I also had Utah on the money line +350.

So that puts me at an awesome 25-9 or 73.5% for the year.

    Michigan -14
    Michigan st -22.5
bet each them tease the two team combos. also parlay the three and hook them for 6-1 (not included in my weekly picks % just a good parlay)

Snyder is 69 % ATS IN BIG 12 games.

    Maryland has qb issues
    Purdue stinks

The only issue Michigan might have this week is the Hurricane. Could keep the game low scoring and maybe close, but probably just low scoring.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
