Skatin Utes 2013-2014

The University of Utah - Skatin Utes hockey team are the defending PAC 8 Champions. The Utes beat Oregon 4-2 in last years Championship Game.

The regular season for 2013 - 2014 began September 20 against BYU and the Utes won 6-2.

The Utes have followed this victory with 5 more in a row to hold a perfect 6-0 record so far this season.

This includes a 4-1 victory over a Weber State team that beat us in last years ACHA Regional Tournament.

Last night, the Utes beat The University of California (Berkeley) by a score of 19-1. Cal was a championship tournament team last year. The PAC 8 league record is 20 points scored in a single contest.

These Utes are pretty damn good! This should make for a fun season, and this years PAC 8 Championship is going to be held in SLC. The Utes are making a run to win the PAC 8 again... this time on their home ice.

The Salt Lake Valley is very fortunate to have the ice facilities that we do. The Olympics made it possible for youth hockey in SLC and the surrounding cities to really takeoff.

Most cities our size have nowhere near the high end ice facilities that we do from Ogden (and Logan) to Provo, and from Park City to West Valley City. Our ice rinks are as good as anywhere in the world, and we have more of them than almost any city our size.

This has really helped create youth programs that feature/develop talent far beyond the numbers in our population. This has helped our youth programs to compete against teams from much larger population centers.

The Utes just returned from a roadie to the Northwest and came back with a sweep of both Oregon and Washington (2 games each).

This Ute team is now 11-0

Playing Weber on Friday night up in Ogden.

The Utes dropped the game to Weber State in Ogden 5-3.

First loss of the season comes to a good Weber State team. We will probably see them again this year at the ACHA Western Regional Tournament.

So far we've split our series with them two to one.

The Skatin' Utes are playing today at 12:00 for the PAC 8 title against Arizona State.

The tournament is on our home ice... where we have skated to a 15-0 regular season home record this year.
