Mormonism needs to find an alternative to its "all or nothing" attitude towards membership.

I'm a non-believer but I am deeply appreciative of the wonderful things the Church has brought to my life and the lives of my family members. We love the Church but under the current approach, we can't find a seat at the table. I actively do anything I can to help the Church, particularly in Latin America, where I have a modicum of influence.

I was thinking about Wuap's posts, and my own experience. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to all (members and the org) to have a liberal approach to membership and devotion?

Eliminate the elements of the Church that God certainly does not care about: tithing settlement, interviews that probe into one's personal life, and the sense of always needing to be 100% Mormon.

Sometimes it's healthy to just let people take a break in a low pressure way and not force them to decide whether they are Mormon or not.
