No doubt there are counterpoints to those made here. I'm trying hard not to follow the current administration closely because doing just depresses me, but I am getting interested in the upcoming midterm elections, mainly because I believe anything that will stop President Obama from succeeding at what he said he wanted to do (http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2013/10/01/obama_transforming_america_120170.html#ixzz351EaCP T3):

“We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” — Barack Obama, October 30, 2008

Having seen the way he wants to make that transformation, I hope the voters will stop him. I'm not optimistic.

As a firmly Libertarian Republican (I'm coining that right now), let me reiterate this: don't fall for Fox New's claptrap.

They are pandering to an increasingly dwindling majority that is fearful of losing their privileged status and control.

I think that might be part of it but I also think there's more complexity to the situation. I'm not concerned about status and control; I just don't want the USA to become Sweden.

As long as the people in the US start looking like the people in Sweden...

I welcome Garth here. I am not an Obama hater and think those people are often ridiculous. (Tea Party, I'm looking at you.) I just disagree profoundly with the direction Obama apparently wants to take the country.

By the way, I'm less concerned about the social welfare issues of our government than I am the corruption and the money spent lobbying to protect private interests. That's a a problem on both sides of the aisle that is a much bigger one in my mind.

I think crony capitalism is a big problem, and I agree that it's bi-partisan. Or maybe non-partisan.

"After having spent more than 30 years in Washington, I am convinced that some of the tangles we have in public life can be traced back to frustrations in the individual. . . . Pride is perhaps the most vicious of all. The pride motive is more dangerous than the profit motive. Men will do things in their quest for power that they will not do in their quest for profits . . . and in the battle of Washington it is the battle between people for power -- and between groups." -- David Lawrence

The problem is having sides of the aisle.
