Well, it looks like this will continue on, so lets start a thread on it.

They have been taken into custody...

What really makes me sad is that we elected these guys. I'm not sad because we elected people who are corrupt. That's normal. What is sad is how dumb these guys are to actually get caught.

Is it worse now than it was 30 years ago, or am I just 30 years older and pay more attention to the enormous amount of information at my fingertips? I'm not sure.

Who else that has been elected goes down with them? Would love if this would equalize some things with the political parties here in Utah.

Two cool things I learned from reading up on this case today.

1. Swallow is accused of receiving $17,000 in gold coins from the owner of some Provo payday loan shop! Is this case about corruption or sunken treasure?

2. Swallow is being represented by the man who represented Mark Hoffman, Utah's very own Perry Mason: Ron Yengich!

I'm not sure whether to think that Swallow has fallen that low, or that Yengich has risen that high.

Has Ron Yengich won a case yet?

Has Ron Yengich won a case yet?

Ron has won plenty of cases, and has returned a better judgement than some of his clients deserved. Those are also 'wins'.

I recall back in the 80s one of his clients was accused of stabbing his wife to death. The relationship was very rocky, they had been arguing heatedly, she was covered with blood at the crime scene, and the husband's story didn't seem to check out. Should have been an easy slam dunk case.

Yengich was able to get his client acquitted by proving that the wife had in fact stabbed herself more than 37 times, and that her death was in fact a suicide. (No defensive wounds on her hands, etc). I don't recall most of the details.

He overcame pretty long odds in that case if you ask me.
