It is obvious in looking at our non-conference schedule, which plays out in the last part of 2014 here, there are 4 games of note.

Utah @SDSU, November 18 2pm MT
Utah vs Wichita State, December 3 9pm MT
Utah @BYU, December 10 7pm MT
Utah @Kansas, December 3:15pm MT

This thread is dedicated to making sure the Utes can win out on those 4 games.

Up first: Utah at San Diego State - November 18 2pm MT

The odd start time is due to it being part of ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. A wonderful 24 straight hours of college basketball. I think it's pretty cool that we get to be a part of it.

It will be a good, early test for this Ute squad. I don't know much about SDSU this year other than they lost Thames and still JJ O'Brien is still on that team. I've always liked Fisher.

Why no mention of UNLV?

Why no mention of UNLV?

Because it ruins the clever wordplay I worked all weekend on. That, and they're not ranked anywhere near the top 25. I know BYU isn't either, but we still have unfinished business of cleaning their clocks in the Marriott Center.

By all means, we can lump them into that group if we want to! Five for five!

SDSU is missing 2-3 players to injury. They will be back in December, but we get to play them short-staffed.

Really? This is the first I've heard of this. Who are the players?

Wow, that's big news, I hadn't seen that. Thanks for the link.

I expect that game to be a VERY low scoring affair... SDSU will be offensively challenged, especially without Thames this year, but they are elite defensively.

I've said this before, but if we could get a win there, we would most likely be 6-0 and probably ranked in the top-15 heading into the Dec. 3 match-up vs Wichita St. And they could be top-10 by then if they get past Memphis.

Bottom line, that SDSU game is HUGE for the program. Would really make a splash nationally to start the year.

Apparently Dicky V is on board (http://unlv.247sports.com/Bolt/Dicky-V-predicts-Runnin-Rebels-to-go-dancing-32652678) with UNLV turning it around.

I'm not certain if that helps their cause or not.

Here's a good recap from their recent exhibition game.

They didn't make one 3 pointer (0-8), but dominated on the glass and in the paint. Sounds like the typical SDSU team... long, athletic, scary good on the glass and on D.

I think it was Gottlieb who put it best (regarding the Aztecs this year): "I don't know who will score for them, but I don't know how anyone will score against them."

I am planning to find a way to get to the SDSU game. I have a client down there who must need to see me that day....

I'll be there. And I don't need a client-based excuse to show up; my loyal fanhood is enough.

Right! I want to see if I can tell the two teams apart.
