Alright folks, let's do this! It's back, the Utah by 5 Bracket Challenge.

Here's what you need to know:

Entry Fee $10
Max No. of Entries: 2
Payout: Winner take most. We will donate 25% of the money in to the site. Ideally, we get 20 entries and the winner gets $150 and the site gets $50. If we get more, it goes up...you know the drill.

Picks need to be in for the first Thursday game.

So as not to bog down the site admins with this, we'll use paypal (PM me for details...or, reply to this thread to let me know you are in and I'll PM you the details).

When you pay via paypal, put "Utah by 5 donation" in the notes so that paypal doesn't flag it as a bracket pool.

Since my educated guesses never seem to bear fruit when it comes to brackets, along with a bracket I actually tried on, I'm also submitting a bracket that follows the following methodolgy... we'll see which one does better:

1. Highest seed always wins except when...
2. It is a PAC 12 team or...
3. They are playing Utah...
4. Utah always wins.

My final four is Cal vs Oregon and Utah vs USC... Final is Oregon v Utah... you know the outcome... Utah wins 99-40.

Let's go Utes! For what it's worth, I got married in 98 and promised my wife I would not "ruin" our honeymoon by watching basketball the whole time. I remember finding out that we had beaten Arizona by stopping in a sports book in Mesquite on our way to San Diego for our honeymoon. This year we leave for vacation on Saturday morning and once again I have promised not to "ruin" our trip by watching basketball the whole time. Hopefully the similarities in circumstance mean another deep run for the Utes. Beat those bulldogs!

No perfect brackets left out of the 13 million submitted through ESPN after 24 games.



Last year, one bracket (out of 11.57 million) remained perfect after the round of 64, the first time there was a perfect first round in ESPN's Tournament Challenge since at least 2010.
Through the first 24 games of this year’s tournament, 11 lower-seeded teams have won, with the biggest upset being No. 15 seed Middle Tennessee over No. 2 seed Michigan State. Thus, an all-chalk bracket has gone just 13-11, which would rank in the 11th percentile. Last year after the round of 64, an all-chalk bracket netted a 27-5 record, good for the 98.7th percentile.

On the other end of the spectrum (bracket futility), three brackets have tabbed only two correct picks (there are no longer any winless brackets).

It appears that no one can overtake Senioritis in the bracket challenge this year, so he is the champion. I will note that given what happened this year that is a pretty dubious honor, although it is hard to argue with going with UNC in the tournament.

Congrats Senioritis, don't spend that $20 in one place.
