Welcome to UtahBy5. We’re glad you have found us and hope you stay a while. UtahBy5 is an internet community created by fans of the University of Utah for everyone with a connection to or interest in our Alma Mater. We intend this to be a place for discussion of, well, more or less anything. It is “home” for us and whether you “live” here too or just come over to watch a game or grill some steaks, we have a couple of ground rules we ask all to observe.

The University of Utah’s Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities prohibits:

“Physical or verbal assault, sexual harassment, hazing, threats, intimidation, coercion or any other behavior which threatens or endangers the health or safety of any member of the University community.…”

In keeping with the best traditions of the U, we don’t tolerate these things either. In addition, we don’t tolerate comments that are racist, sexist or bigoted toward any group of people. All of the things mentioned above are various forms of personal attacks, which we must prohibit, as we want everyone to feel welcome in our home. The cardinal rule on UtahBy5 is to attack the post or the idea, but not the poster. The camaraderie of this community is a privilege, not a right, and we will ask those who cannot follow this rule to clean up their act, and ultimately to go if they don’t.

With that said, we also recognize that folks are frequently passionate about the issues they debate and discuss here and that community members will sometimes use sarcasm, satire, and even condescension to make a point. While we think there are better ways to get your point across, in moderation they will be tolerated. But if those rhetorical techniques are just your style or we find you using them too often, you’re going to need a new style or a new community. We’ll do our best to warn people when we see them crossing the line, but if we come home to find you got drunk and shaved the dog you will probably find yourself on the curb without a warning. So be careful, use common sense and pay attention to how people are reacting to you.

Please also take note of the “no solicitation” sign on the screen door. We don’t mind if our friends want to share opportunities with us or tell us about their business ventures, but if we don’t know you and you try to sell us pest control, get us into your downline or help us find the Lord, those communications will be summarily removed.

Last, our spouses, parents and kids are all welcome in our home, so no posting or linking obscene or lewd material you wouldn’t want them to see. Similarly, even though sometimes we all have to cuss, more than a little and you’re going to get your mouth washed out with soap.

Breaking our ground rules may result in anything from a warning to a suspension to the indefinite loss of your privileges here, all of which is in our sole discretion.

The house dad of this community is Jarid in Cedar with LA Ute, Mormon Red Death, Orange Ute, Solon and UtahDan rounding out the Board of Trustees. They are assisted by DrumNFeather, DU Ute, Red Bird, Senioritis and U Ute who serve as moderators. If any of us can help you or answer your questions, please let us know. Bring your own drinks and a couple extra for us.

DD, we don't go out of our way to censor but if we run across an obscenity we edit the post, no matter whose it is. In your case you posted photos containing the obscenities, and we couldn't edit those. So we deleted the post. Those are the rules here. I did not write them. I don't know what happened to the other inoffensive posts you're taking about.

Here are the rules again:

Just a reminder to everyone of the rules here. Be careful about personal attacks, obscenity, and the other things listed above.
