Despite this excellent op-ed’s title, Douthat doesn’t spare conservatives here:

Frankly, given how often it happens, I am to the point now where any rumors like these about a person in power I pretty much accept as fact (Clinton, Weiner, Cosby, Pitino, Ailes, O'Reilly, and now Weinstein). Rumors like this are cockroaches: if you find one, there's probably 100 more like it that are hiding.

The more salacious one going around right now involve Trump, Epstein, and Clinton.

People are amazed that a personality like Trump or this scum bag have successful businesses. I'm not going to name names, but this community has the same type of persons running really successful businesses (private businesses, of course). They are abusive. Perhaps not as sexually abusive, but abusive nontheless. Which brings us back to sports. Some of the most successful college coaches are abusive, narcissistic assholes.

The power allows them to behave this way. But don't be fooled, this is a personality type of some very successful men (and probably a few women).

It's a little humorous watching the silence from the Hollywood elite about this issue. They've known forever and likely quite of few of the Hollywood elite women took him up on his offers. Very awful and sad situation.

In medicine and law (the two businesses I know best) the same characteristics that make a person successful in those fields can also make them very difficult to deal with and often they are horrible people. It’s always been interesting to me. It’s a small percentage of the people involved, IMO, and often they are a problem that everyone else just puts up with. Why? Because they generate lots of income. When I see people like that in an organization it tells me an awful lot about the place’s culture and the backbone and values of the leadership.

This is by Thomas Frank, author of “What’s Wrong with Kansas?”

What Harvey Weinstein tells us about the liberal world

Harvey Weinstein seemed to fit right in. This is a form of liberalism that routinely blends self-righteousness with upper-class entitlement. That makes its great pronouncements from Martha’s Vineyard and the Hamptons. That routinely understands the relationship between the common people and showbiz celebrities to be one of trust and intimacy.

Countless people who should have known better are proclaiming their surprise at Harvey Weinstein’s alleged abuses. But in truth, their blindness is even more sweeping than that. They are lost these days in a hall of moral mirrors, weeping tears of admiration for their own virtue and good taste.

Of course my friends here on UB5 are not sympathetic to the part of the liberal world that Frank describes. I do know plenty of folks here in La-La Land who are, however.
