Utah at California - Quick Hits
• Last week, Utah dropped a contest at Colorado, 60-50. Jordan Loveridge (http://utahutes.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/jordan_loveridge_799209.html), Jason Washburn (http://utahutes.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/jason_washburn_362936.html) and Brandon Taylor (http://utahutes.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/brandon_taylor_799211.html) all finished with double figures as the Utes began a three-game road swing.

• Over the last five games, Utah has held its opponents to 27.2 percent shooting from three-point range (28-of 103), but is a minus-41 on the glass (28.6-36.8).

• Utah leads the Pac-12 and ranks 33rd nationally by limiting its opponents to 39.0 percent shooting from the field. The Utes are also tops in the league by holding their opponents to only 62.2 points per game.

• Offensively, the Utes rank 17th nationally, tops in the Pac-12, in assisted basket percentage (63.0%). Utah is also the league leader in three-point field goal percentage (36.2%) and free throw percentage (75.1%) while ranking third in points per shot (1.08).

• Cal is the hottest team in the Pac-12 with a five-game winning streak. Allen Crabbe is one of the leading scorers in the nation at 19.5 points per game and Justin Cobbs averaged 16 points and six assists last week in wins over No. 23 Oregon and Oregon State.

• The Golden Bears lead the league by limiting their opponents to 40.7 percent shooting in conference play. On the other side of the spectrum, their three-point shooting (30.9%) ranks last in the Pac-12.
Last Time Out
Utah started a three-game road swing with a tough loss at Colorado, 60-50. Jordan Loveridge (http://utahutes.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/jordan_loveridge_799209.html) had 12 points and seven rebounds to pace the Runnin’ Utes.

Classmate Brandon Taylor (http://utahutes.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/brandon_taylor_799211.html) added 10 points, the first time he scored in double figures since scoring a career-high 21 at Oregon State. Jason Washburn (http://utahutes.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/jason_washburn_362936.html) inched closer to the 1,000-point plateau with 10 points, while also grabbing five rebounds.

Colorado scored the first five points but Utah took their largest lead at 26-21, on a jumper by Loveridge
Colorado rallied and closed on a 9-2 run to take a 30-28 lead to the lockers.

After taking a 31-30 lead in the early stages of the second half, Utah saw the Buffaloes go on an 11-0 run and hold the lead for the remainder of the game.

The Utes did eventually trim the lead to five, 55-50, on a layup by Washburn with 2:29 to play but missed a couple chances to get closer. Colorado connected on 5-of-6 attempts at the line for the final margin.

Last Meeting
Utah dropped a close contest to Cal, 62-57 on January 24 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Four Utah players scored in double figures with Washburn leading the way. The senior poured in 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Loveridge scored 12 points and corralled nine rebounds, Taylor had 10 points, five assists and four rebounds, while Glen Dean (http://utahutes.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/glen_dean_752696.html) also scored 10.
Cal led by as many as 15 in the second half until a Washburn three-pointer cut Utah’s deficit to just three, 58-55, with under a minute remaining. Taylor missed a three-pointer with 11 seconds left for the Utes and Justin Cobbs grabbed the rebound and sank a pair of free throws to seal the win for Cal.

Utah out-shot the visitors for the contest, making 43 percent of its field goal tries. The Utes were also a plus-six on the glass and made 12-of-13 free throws, but the turnovers did them in. In total, the Utes committed 17 turnovers, 15 in the first 20 minutes.

Washburn Working Way Up Charts
Washburn has notched double-doubles in four conference games and is averaging 13.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting 54 percent from the field. He currently ranks ninth in the league in rebounding, fourth in field-goal percentage and sixth in blocks.

Washburn is closing his Utah career with a flourish, scoring in double figures during 15 of the last 17 contests. He has now scored 984 points in his 116 career games. He is currently averaging 11.7 points per game after scoring at a career-best clip of 11.4 points per contest last year.

The Michigan native is ranked 15th in the nation when it comes to field goal percentage. Washburn is connecting on 57.6 percent of his attempts for the season after 60 percent shooting the last two weeks.

I'm glad this one is on ESPNU, I haven't had many chances to see the team play.

I thought that the 10 seed might be good because they could match up with USC, but USC just beat Arizona, so who knows if that is a good match up or not. Either way, it'll be fun to watch them vs. Mike "big shove" Montgomery and the Bears tonight.

i haven't noticed any lack of motivation in this team. i like that they don't give up in any game. mentally, this is a very tough team and i think that they have good strong leadership at the top with LK and tommy connor. awesome.

We need to get off to a better start. We came ask the way back and ran out of gas. It would be nice nut to start the game down 10-15 pts in the first half.

Utah had approximately 157 turnovers in the first half against Cal the first time so that is something to track for an indicator as to how tonight's game goes. I'm not optimistic. At this point, I just want the team to compete, to win at least one more game and to find a few more minutes for some of the youngsters that will help next year.

Agreed. We want no part of USC. In fact, USC is the worst possible draw we could get out of our potential first-round matchups. All three of our league wins are in position to play a first-round game and all would be better matchups for us than USC.

They got hot from 3 range - a couple of their shots were amazing. We were playing them very tough inside (I could see the banging up close) and daring them to beat us from outside. Which they've started doing. That opened up he middle a bit and the got a couple of easy layups. It'll be interesting to see what LK does.

I think we've got some nice building blocks, but man, this team needs to learn how to overcome adversity and also overcome themselves. I'd also like to see a faster version of the K offense. Exactly. I have been giving them too much credit in these areas. They looked like a team with nothing to play for. They need to get that killer instinct going and learn to hold onto and expand leads rather than just try to maintain.

Washburn 4 pts and 4 rebounds is just ridiculous. Only one foul as well. We were not very aggressive down low.
