We’ve had the Utah State Aggies sitting in this last spot in the CBI for quite some time, but interestingly enough, it isn’t the Aggies that are going to be filling this last spot. The teams from the WAC really have shown no immediate interest about playing in the CBI or the CIT. USU’s cross-state rivals, the Utah Utes had a nice run in the Pac-12 Tournament, and they are rumored to be taking a slot in the CBI as well.

I thought you had to be .500 or above to play post season basketball (NIT, CBI or CIT). Am I wrong about that?

It is the case for FBS football, but I can't find any such rule for basketball.

Doing a search shows other teams (Oregon State, Purdue, Texas) that are below .500 in the mix.

According to the official CBI website (http://www.gazellegroup.com/events/cbi/index_main.htm) it will be this next Sunday.

Here's the field for the CBI (http://www.gazellegroup.com/events/cbi/teams.htm). I can't really say we deserved to be there. The 2 teams that made it in with losing records (Purdue, at 15-17, and Texas, at 16-17) seem a notch or two better than we are, and probably without bad losses liks Cal State Northridge and Sac State.

It's really too bad. There are 3-5 games that the Utes "should" have won (Cal State, Sac State, BYU)... ok 3. But, those three games get us into some sort of post season play. Too bad.

Same how in football, losing to Utah State kept us from post season play as well. You have to beat the teams you are supposed to beat.

8 losses by 5 or fewer points meant that we are headed the right direction, but not yet deserving of post season play.
