I couldn't figure out where else to put this, and because it covers all sports facilities and relates to PAC-12 upgrades, here it is: another nice article by Tony Jones about Utah facilities upgrades generally:

AT&T to be the exclusive wireless provider at all Pac-12 venues (http://blogs.mercurynews.com/collegesports/2013/09/16/pac-12-networks-what-the-attu-verse-agreement-means-to-fans-its-a-bigger-deal-than-you-think/)

All I know is that my AT&T iPhone becomes a brick once I enter RES. It sounds like that will get fixed.

They all do. The cell networks in Salt Lake are mediocre at best. Much of that is due to local community councils controlling where and how many cell towers exist, as those in power find them ugly. Our air cards for our laptops in our cars struggle in some spots because of this.

Once you throw 50,000 extra people into an area it overloads the capability. Hopefully this helps since I have AT&T too lol

Not in the south endzone. People next to me have Verizon and their phones are worthless.

Just looking at Stanford Stadium on TV, it seems kinda smallish. It holds 50K, just 5K more than RES. It's interesting to think that RES won't really be all that big even after 10K seats are added. But it will be a decent-sized college football stadium.

Stanford stadium is a beautiful place.

I would rather have 50K seats and have the stadium be very, very nice than have a bomb shelter with 60K.

Give me me less seats but more suites, better food and bathrooms galore.

Ditto. I want full and loud and a great environment. Clean and comfortable. Plus we have the beauty of the hills and the city view. RES is a fantastic venue for a football game.

This bit from Jon Wilner fits here:

Cal announces a 15-year, $18 million (approx) field naming right deal with Kabam, the online video game company founded by Berkeley grads. The agreement has drawn more than few chuckles — in part because of the name Kabam — but this is the future, folks: The days of football stadiums generating revenue only through ticket/concession sales six days per year are over. There’s too much pressure on budgets to not squeeze every dollar out of every resource. Credit Cal AD Sandy Barbour and deputy AD/COO Solly Fulp — the Bears are way ahead of the game. In a few years, the sale of field (and stadium) naming rights will be the norm. (Oh, and that $1 million per year from Kabam? It’s enough to pay market rate for offensive and defensive coordinators.)

Do you think RES will ever have another name for the same reason?

Let's pool our resources and get it named the Utah By Five stadium.

I swear my check is in the mail.

i was thinking maybe Rio Tinto Stadium, but that one's gone. Maybe Zions's Bank Stadium? We could call it Zion's for short. C.R. England Field?

Quick, someone get Adobe on the phone so that we can get this deal done. I don't know of John Warnock is a football fan, but the money in addition to the calling out the he is a Utah grad would be huge for the school.
