This thread is not about cult movies but I am sure some will be included. It's just above movies you came to love because they mean something special to you. I'll start with The Sandlot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sandlot). The world created in that movie is eerily similar to mine growing up. (In fact, it even was shot in Salt Lake City -- the Glendale area.)

This is not at the top of my list but it came to mind because someone used the "You're killing me, Smalls" line on me in an e-mail this morning.

One of my all time favorites was on yesterday. "The Best Years of Our Lives" . Fredric March, Myrna Loy, Dana Andrews, Teresa Wright, Virginia Mayo, and Harold Russell. A great movie about what it is like to come home from war and readjust. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.

Although I have no actual nostalgia for it, a film that makes me feel nostalgic is Cinema Paradiso (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FzVWlOKeLs).

I'm 20 so my nostalgia is all about Star Wars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5N6_NWtVxY) and Pokemon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clI1Fe4-LMo).

:highfive: I am 40 and my nostalgia is all about Star Wars as well.

Hey, I was 22 when the first one came out. That series covers at least three generations. I remember the long wait between each of the first three movies.

I love the original trilogy and I watched it a lot growing up. My favorite movie is Empire Strikes Back.

I've come to recognize the fact that the prequel trilogy isn't very good, but I do feel nostalgia for Episode I & II. Embarrassing, I know.

The tough thing about the
Prequel trilogy is that they were telling a story that was already known. Most of my kids pick episode II or VI as their favorite. I like episode III and IV as my favorites.

III and IV are hard to beat. I remember in 1997 (right?) when they released all three movies again, 1 month apart. My own boys were beside themselves with excitement - they would have been 11 and 7 at the time. They also had a collection of Star Wars figures. All this over a move that was already 20 years old but still had a hold on the imagination of kids not yet born when it came out.

It will be interesting to see what the Mouse does to Star Wars. This thread is evidence of the multi-generational impact of the series. My 4 year old absolutely loves Star Wars--there is a Lego Star Wars show on TV tonight that we are recording for him and he's been stoked about it for days. There's little doubt that he will love episode VII when it comes out in two years, but it will be fascinating to see whether the series returns to what the old diehards loved in episodes IV, V and VI or if Disney just gives up on keeping that group happy and sells out with the younger generation. I am also really curious to see what they do with the story--do they try to build directly off of the characters and plots from the existing movies or do they only make vague references to the previous stuff and basically start from scratch with new characters and themes?

They won't start from scratch. That's not where the money is
