Rylan Jones is going to be really good. Tough, he takes a to of charges & in the middle of every scrum for the ball.
Center position is already better than last year. Carlson has good hands. MVK is a force on D. And Lahat has potential.
Brenchley was better than I expected.
They might be hard to watch this year—especially early on—might get beat up by older players, but future is bright.
It sure was fun to watch basketball again last night. I'm excited for the season, and my dreams have not been crushed yet.
Amen... I think we will be presently surprised. Brenchley was the biggest surprise for me last night. If he can be 6th man who can drain the corner 3 they will be better than expected. Carlson looked good and even MVK looked like he could move well.Quote:

-Brenchley cleary ahead of Plummer and Wenzel on the depth chart
-Defensive improvement. Adjusting for (lack of) competition, we rotated better and just performed better on D. Hopefully it continues
I have a feeling we won't see Wenzel or Plummer around next year. And I also suspect that we won't see too much of them this year.

I haven't watched the second half yet, but my thoughts from the first half:
- Love Carlson's skill around the basket. Catch and score, rebound and score, pass out of the post.
- We finally have a true PG!
- Allen and Gach have to attack the basket and finish.
- Battin is going to very quietly lead this team in scoring and that might drive some folks nuts
I'm excited for this season. I think this team will be fun to watch. Frustrating at times? Maybe, but hey, this is our squad!
Season prediction: 18-12.

Shooting was not good at all and it didn't really strike me as a bunch of great looks that went halfway down and came out. In other words, I don't have high hopes that it was an anomaly.
I was dismayed to see the rotation--not because I don't think Larry played the right guys, I really don't know--but because the first eight were scholarship players (five FR and three SO) and then walkons were getting minutes ahead of the three remaining scholarship players. Way too early, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope for the long-term viability of Al Plummer as a player on this roster. Lahat has plenty of upside but I thought he'd be a little further along in his development than he appears right now. I actually thought Wenzel did a lot of nice things and could carve out a decent role--especially if his shooting lives up to billing--but there has to be some reason that he is behind a couple of walkons in the rotation already.
As for good things, I liked Carlson--we'll have to see how he looks against guys his size but he'll be good as an upperclassman (hopefully at Utah). Jantunen is a keeper, I hope we can keep him around for a while. I like having Timmy Allen as a go-to scorer who shows a knack for getting to the line--it won't always be as easy as last night, but from what we saw last year he just knows how to attack the hoop and draw fouls and I think we'll see plenty of that as his usage increases this year. Seeing man-to-man defense just feels right, I hope we don't fall back into being a predominantly zone team again.
Based on just one exhibition game, looks like our 8-man rotation will be:
Jones, Gach, Brenchley
Battin, Allen, the Finn
Carlson, MVK
I like it. I guess Wenzel or the other guy could take Brenchley's spot. That one might take some time to sort out.
