LA and all,
I'm intrigued by your Dicken's list - you list Bleak House and Copperfield before A Tale of Two Cities? You may just persuade me to read them. Tell me why. I've been in a nonfiction path...

LA and all,
I'm intrigued by your Dicken's list - you list Bleak House and Copperfield before A Tale of Two Cities? You may just persuade me to read them. Tell me why. I've been in a nonfiction path...
Lord of the Flies - there's a book I could read again. Terrific. Crime and Punishment was another terrific read. Although I don't think I could read that again. That's a powerful book that took over...
I'm sure we could get LA Ute, USS and a few others. Fun idea. I may be a little reluctant to discuss via teleconference. Alternatively, we could post some comments/questions as we go along and some...
OrangeUte,
You're one of the first people I know who's read Bobrich's "Angel in the Whirlwind." That is a fantastic book. Sounds like we need to get in the same book group.
OrangeUte,
I can add a personal recommendation on Whirlwind. I've read a lot on the American Revolution and haven't read a better book.
Question for the board: Has anyone read "Andersonville?"...
Summer Read - "The Cartel" by Don Winslow. Quite a read. One of those can't put down summer novels. You do learn quite a bit about how the drug operations ran or are running in Mexico. Winslow used...
I don't know if it's been recommended by a couple of the more informed posters about WWII and Civil War literature but Target Tokyo by James M. Scott. is a terrific read. Just finished it. I've read...
Goldfinch is on my list this summer. I'll get that done LA - although, I finally need to read The Brothers Karamazov which, I believe, is your favorite.
I don't know if I've recommended it here...
LA,
I can't believe you haven't finished "The Brothers K." Remember who recommended it to you my brother.
The digressions are its strength in my opinion. What a lovely book.
Drum,
How heavy or how light is the book? I'm looking for a lighter, summer-read. I just finished "Public Enemies" which I recommend but it was a pretty serious non-fiction about the exploits of...
Seattle,
I've been planning on being there but a funeral in the family is taking me out of town tomorrow. I promise that I'll go into King's English Monday morning and buy the book. Per chance will...
I just finished "Boys in the Boat" - the story of the 9-man crew that won the gold medal in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. It's a must-read. The author profiles all of the rowers but focuses on Joe Rantz...
LA,
You do realize that I'm talking about a different book - definitely inspired by The Brothers Karamazov but titled, "The Brothers K" written by David James Duncan. Really good novel with sports...
LA,
It's a good thing you live in a warm place otherwise I'd recommend you wait to read Crime and Punishment until spring/summer. I read it in the winter many years ago. Reading at that time of year...
Big thumbs up for Givens' Pratt biography and the God Who Weeps - amazing that Givens can do history so well and then turn to Mormon Doctrine and write (with his wife Fiona) one of the finest...
