    Ken Pom and Marc Jackson

I have a Ken Pom subscription and the stats go back to 2002.

In Majerus, second to last year 2002-03, Marc Jackson's Ken Pom # are off the charts. His offensive rating is 116. Most high offensive rating numbers are from bigs who get easy buckets and lots of rebounds. Jackson shot 85% from the free throw line, 55 from the 2 and 45 from the 3. And he got to the line an astonishing number of times. He didn't take enough 3's. Should have taken twice as many.

He was the real deal. Anybody remember his dive (going completely horizontal) behind an Oregon player to get a steal in the NCAA's?

He should have been conference player of the year that year. The story goes after the season, he went into Majerus' office and asked him to stop calling him a cunt. Majerus responded something to the effect of "you're a cunt, you're a cunt, you're a cunt" and so, Jackson quit.

The next year Majerus bails mid-season claiming heart problems. incidentally, according to Ken Pom, Bogut's numbers Majerus' last year weren't all that great. A year later, under an extremely average coach (and with Jackson back), his Ken Pom numbers become one of the best in all the land. He even shoots 35% percent from the 3 point line. And Jackson's numbers are once again off the charts (hits 45% of his threes taking twice as many shots as he did two years earlier).

    Two things,

Majerus was an abusive asshole whose time had come.

Marc Jackson might be the most underrated basketball player to ever play at Utah and likely is the most underrated basketball player to ever come out of the state of Utah.

Good post. I loved m Jackson. That diving steal was kind of his trademark. Didn't he pull that a couple of times?

And yes, majerus was an abusive asshole? But he was our abusive asshole!

👍 Sums up the era of the greatest hoops coach we've ever had. Notably, he was an AA only on the basketball court during practice. I suspect LK could use just a wee bit of that special Majerus sauce.

I believe you mean Marc Jackson. Seeing the name Mark Jackson made me think of someone else.

Marc was certainly one of my all-time favorite Ute ballers. Interesting stuff, Two Utes.

Given how much Krystkowiak has been able to ruffle Cougar feathers without even really trying, it makes me wonder what Majerus would be able to accomplish in two seasons in the social media age.

Majerus was the "House" of basketball. Impossible to explain or understand the guy who enjoyed incredible professional success, but, eventually, his life imploded, alienating an entire organization (school? state?) and he had to go.

Marc was the heart of that team.

Much like Taylor was for us last year.
