    Hello Timmy Allen.
Utah season high, 29 PER. 10 rebounds, 21 points, 4 assists, 3 steals. That's the guy we heard so much about.
Sed led the team in scoring with 22 but 7/15 shooting dropped his PER to 17.

Utah was up 41-19 at half and coasted to a victory. Colorado tried to make it interesting,
Colorado was 1/6 from three in the first half and 5/11 in the second half

Colorado only had 10 assists, tied season low (Tulsa) and 1 block. Utah allows 4 blocks per game
Utah tied a season high in free throw attempts with 29 and blocks with 5. In fact, 10 blocks over the past 2 games.
30% of Utah season blocks have come in the last 3 games (17.6% of season).

Utah was +5 on steals and +4 on blocks (both season highs).
Colorado didn't look great but they were blitzed and shell-shocked in the first half and never recovered
Utah actually took 9 less shots than Colorado but they had the same number of possessions, meaning Colorado had +3 offensive boards.

The turning point was early. Utah was up 12-7. Utah got 6 steals in three minutes. Two ally-oop dunks and the lead ballooned to 21-7 in those three minutes.
Utah pushed it up to 24 at the 5 minute mark at 37-13 and reached a lead of 28 with 16:35 in the second half at 49-21.
Colorado made a huge push and cut it to 10 with 3:28 and eventually a final deficit of 9.

Well, this only happens maybe once a year. Stanford had a better efficiency score but lost the game.
    Utah stole this one.

Utah won this game shooting from three. 64.3% was a season high 9/14 (14 attempts was a season low)
Stanford was only 4/17 (4 was a season low for makes for an opponent)

Utah was -5 for shot attempts
    -6 offensive rebounds
-10 in blocks (10:0 by the way)
    -7 in rebounds
-1.8% at the free throw line
only 40% off assists from made shots
...however, Utah was +40.8% from deep. Ballgame

21 combined assists was a season low for a Utah game.
The teams combined for 13/31 from deep, both season lows.

You can see below, neither team got a lead bigger than 6. 11 lead changes. Tied 10 times. This was a good game to watch.

Timmy Allen notched his second career double-double, both in the past week.
He now holds the #1 and #2 spots for efficiency high in a Utah game.

Cal is not a good team. Sueing is good and that's about it.
Utah pulled a season high 32 defensive rebounds and grabbed 94.1% of defensive rebound opportunities
The 5 offensive rebounds by Cal wasn't a season low for Utah opponent but 5 under the average allowed.

Utah only shot 3/9 from the free throw line, 33.3% was a season low, 3 makes was also a season low.
Utah registered an assist on 39.4% of all made shots, that was a season low for Utah. Average is 55.7%
Utah did make 33 shots which was only 2 off their season high, around the likes of Mississippi Valley and Washington St.
Again, the Bears aren't very good this year.

Utah was +8 on turnovers but -17% from the line. Otherwise Utah wins this by 30.
They were +17 on rebounds, second highest to Florida A&M and the 18 point win ties the third largest defeat with Washington St.

The teams combined for a season low 8/19 from the line, both lows. Combined 42.1% also a season low, but it didn't matter to Utah.
They owned the glass and made 4 more threes and 8 more shots. Ballgame.
The announcers kept alluding to the 50/50 balls, I don't track that but Utah dominated that stat.

Utah got down early but after the 8:35 mark in the first half and a PVD three Utah never looked back
Cal made a push to end the first half but Utah quickly pushed it to 14 at the 15:32 mark on a Sed three 58-44 and Utah coasted to a victory.

    UTAHATCAL.JPG

Big week versus the very beatable Oregon teams. Don't look now but Utah is in 2nd place in the Pac12.

Oregon had 11 steals, season high for Utah opponent.
Plus, the Ducks did a really good job on the offensive glass, 35.5% of all opportunities. Season avg is 30.2%
Utah had 17 turnovers which was +4 over their average. Ballgame.

Richardson was very efficient. missed 4 shots, 0 turnovers, 3 blocks, 5 rebounds. Overall great game.
For Utah, Tillman had a great game going 4/5 from deep but he didn't take a single shot inside the arc.
When your beefy 3 is shooting from deep, something seems off. He needs to be imposing his size inside.

Oregon only had 10 assists but they didn't need them. They had +2 possessions and shot +24% better from the line.
Utah was only 13/23 from the line and they are 16/32 in the last 2 games 50%, terrible.
If they shoot 80% from the line, Utah wins.
If they make 2 less bad passes, Utah wins.
If they grab two more defensive boards, Utah wins.

The turning point was at the 6:22 mark in the first half. JJ just made two free throws to put Utah up 14 at 30-16. 8 Utah turnovers later and Oregon ends the half on a 22-4 run.
Oregon continued into the second half for 12 minutes and at the 7:37 mark in the 2nd half, Oregon was up 60-47. That would conclude a 44-17 run for Oregon and they coasted to the victory.

Oregon St was the aggressor and went to the line, often, and won. 26/32 from the line were both season highs for Utah opponent.
Utah allows on the season 13.4/18.7 from the line 71.7%. Beavers shot 81.3%
Utah had 23 personal fouls +5 off their season average

Utah only had 18 defensive rebounds, meaning Oregon State picked up 46.2% off all offensive rebounding opportunities.
Allowing a team over 30% typically means bad things, 46.2% is a season high for Utah opponent.
The Beavs only had 10 assists, second game in a row Utah did that. Meaning their defense has actually been pretty good, it's the second chance and fouls that killed them.
Plus, Utah couldn't couldn't hit anything from the 13:24 mark to 9:32, felt like they were stuck on 9 forever. See highlighted area below.

    uTAHOregonst score.JPG

Utah only picked up 18 defensive rebounds, season low tying Kentucky. Utah actually had 7 more shot attempts than Oregon State but made the same 25.
Utah was positive on three point makes but -4% on makes. The turnover margin wasn't a factor in this game, Utah did do a better job from the Oregon game but the hustle points were low.
Offensive rebounds, steals and blocks were all in the negative for Utah.

Oregon St was +9 on blocked shots. Utah has only won the blocked shot category 6 out of 21 games. For being such a big team they really fail at having an inside defensive presence.
The two teams combined for 57 free throw attempts but 32 of those were Oregon State. Having that many fouls, 44 (third highest of the season), really killed any rhythm for Utah.
The 11 three point makes combined was a season low for a Utah game.
This game was won by Oregon State out hustling Utah, getting to the line and being the aggressor on defense. Remember when Utah used to be that team?

I also remember when Tres Tinkle committed to Utah, that would've been nice. Sigh.

The turning point I already mentioned, 13:24 the score was tied at 9. 4 minutes later Oregon State was up 23-9 and held on from there.
Utah did cut it to 4 with 2:13 left but Tres Tinkle hit a dagger from three to put Oregon State up for good at 74-67 with 1:40 remaining.
Larry K said that this team tends to dwell on bad moments, they hang their head and can't let go. He didn't want to blame youth but I will.
This team will learn from a loss like this that one play won't win the game but thinking about that one play will lose the game.

    UtahBeavers.JPG

Tough to lose 2 winnable games at home just before the toughest 5 game stretch of the season. 0-7 is a real possibility. Sigh

    The Jayce Johnson show.
    5/8 shooting, 3/5 from the line, 13 rebounds 1 block, 0 turnovers

USC took a season high 71 shots but only had a season low 6 turnovers for a Utah opponent
1/9 possessions resulted in a turnover for USC, season low for Utah game.

The positives, USC was only 7/11 from the line and only 12 assists.
Utah on the other hand had 32 defensive rebounds, tying their season high (@Cal and Maine)
Utah actually dominated this game in every category but the +9 turnovers kept it close.

Utah led the entire game, USC never got closer than 7 after the 10 minute mark in the 1st half

    PVFD!!!

As much of the heroics go to Parker Van Dyke and the buzzer beater, Allen and Battin were awesome and underappreciated.

    Allen - 9/11 shooting, 4/4 from the line, 7 rebounds, 3 assists
    Battin - 7/10 shooting, 2/5 from three, 2/3 from the line, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists.

Without those guys, Utah doesn't win. Great team effort and comeback.
UCLA had 20 assists and 95 points, both season highs for Utah opponent
75 Possessions was also a season high, +8 average
UCLA only had 3 offensive boards, credit Utah. Utah grabbed 92% of all defensive rebounding opportunities. Average is 79.2%

Utah took 69 shots (season high), 36 three point attempts (season high), 23 assists (season high) and 78 possessions (season high)
Utah was +16 in shot attempts and +8 on the offensive glass. Utah won this game on determination and hustle (rebounds and second chance)

The teams combined for 6 game highs for the season (64 shots made, 43 assists, 185 points, 208 efficiency, 1.72 assists/turnover and 153 possessions)

You've probably heard this 100 times but Utah led for a total of 0:00, and won the game

The turning point will go down in Utah history as one of the greatest game ending shots for Utah and Parker Van Dyke.

Great overall game from everybody. PVD again rocked it from deep, JJ and Allen played excellent
Parker is 15/26 from deep during this 3 game win streak, 57.7%!

Van Dyke - 7/11 from the field, 7/10 from deep
Johnson - 8/10 from the field, 10 rebounds
Allen - 4/6 from the field, 6/7 from the line, 6 rebounds, 0 turnovers

Jayce is 17/27 in the past 3 games, 33 rebounds and 39 points

Timmy Allen 6 of the top 20 performances for efficiency on the season (including #1, #2 (x2) and #5)
Allen's high of 29 is still the best for a Utah player this season

Utah really shut down Jeter in this game. Jeter had a 30 PER in Arizona but only a 7 on Thursday.
Jeter - 3/7 from the field, 6 rebounds and 5 fouls.

Arizona only had 9 assists, season low, after Utah gave up 20 @UCLA (season high). First time all year Utah held a team under 10 assists
Arizona also only had 1 block. Utah also forced 25 personal fouls (season high)
Arizona only had a 32.1% assist to shot ratio (average is 49.5% )

Utah didn't do anything spectacular but control the ball and win the game. Utah finally shot over 50% for the first time in 6 games.
Season shooting average now at 47.1%.
Utah was 10/24 from three and marked only the 9th time Utah reached 40% from deep (8-1 in those games - @Arizona Utah shot 52.4% and lost)

Utah was -9 on personal fouls and +9/+10 from the line. Utah won by 7 so you could easily point to this as the difference in the game.
Plus PVD going 7/10 from deep.

The turning point in this game was a 5 minute stretch at the 10:41 mark in the second half.
PVD three x2, JJ dunks x2, a couple Allen free throws, a Tillman layup and a three from Ced and Utah went from up 1 at 50-49 to up 16 with 6:27 to play. Ballgame.

Arizona cut it back to 5 with a few seconds remaining but Utah held on for the win.

4 man show at ASU beat Utah. Cheatham, Edwards, Martin and Dort accounted for 85.7% of their efficiency and 86.7% of their points.

98 points and 112 efficiency wer both season highs. Only 2 other games did Utah allow 90+ points (Hawaii and @UCLA)
Only 3 other games did Utah allow +100 efficiency (Minnesota, Hawaii and Kentucky)

34 shots made tied the season high (Kentucky)
Refs were busy, ASU had a season high 26 fouls called on them In fact, Utah usually forces 18.9 fouls per game but 25.5 over the last 2
Barefield, Tillman and Allen are getting to the line a lot more as of late. That tells me they feel more comfortable in the offense and ahead of the defense.

With that said Utah could not match up with ASU. They were more aggressive on the boards +11, and +6 on offensive glass. They were better with control of the ball -3 on turnovers and shot better from 3. +2 from deep and +10% shooting.

The teams combined for 60 free throw attempts and the 185 points tied the UCLA game. Both teams shot over 50% (Utah 53.8% ASU 54.0% combined for 53.9% season high)

Except for an early 2-0 lead by Utah ASU lead the entire game. Utah never got closer than the 5 point deficit at half. The turning point was late, with about 2:36 remaining.
Utah had cut the lead to 7 off of a Both Gach three at 87-80 but a foul by Morely on Edwards who made 2 free throws and a Barefield turnover and ASU layup pushed the lead back to 11 at 91-80 and ASU never looked back.
That Barefield turnover with 2:28 remaining really had a huge impact in the game.

Next up, Washington's on the road. Not going to be an easy week.

Yes, Riley Battin and Beau Rydalch led the Utes. Nothing against those guys, but Utah isn't winning with those 2.
Yes, Timmy Allen was out with a bad back.
Yes, Washington is the #1 team in the conference.
Yes, Utah has a long ways to go still

Season lows for Utah in this game
    14 shots made
    7 assists
    45 points
    31 efficiency (avg is 82.2)

    28% field goal shooting
.39 assists to turnover, meaning 4 assists to every 10 turnovers
    36% effective field goal percentage
-46 efficiency difference (-39 vs Kentucky and BYU)
    -29.5% free throw difference
    -6 on defensive rebounds
+9 turnovers (second to +11 vs Nevada)
    37 combined shots made
    14 combined assists
    107 combined points
    108 combined efficiency
    34.6% combined shooting 37/107
37.8% assists to shots 14 combined assists on 37 combined made shots
123 total possessions (second to 121 vs Kentucky)

Washington didn't play an amazing game, but better. Only 4 makes from three and only 7 assists.
This game was slow. 61 possessions for Washington was a season low, 64 in the first game

With 4:18 in the first half, Utah was up 25-22 after a Riley Battin jumper.
Utah finally broke the 30 point mark with 8:50 to go in the 2nd half, now down 46-32
In 15:28 Utah scored 7 points (see below)

    UTAH AT WASHINGTON2.JPG

The turning point was mentioned above. Tough to win when you average 1 point every 2 minutes. That's a 20 point pace
Contrast that to the final 3 minutes at UCLA where Utah scored 25 points, 8 points every 1 minute or a 333 point pace
Obviously, all things being equal....it was bound to balance itself out.

Utah's big three. Allen missed his second straight game and Sed, Donnie and PVD all stepped up.

Turnovers and three point shooting was the name of this game

Utah only had 7 turnovers and a 2.6:1.0 assist/turnover ratio, season high.
Utah was also 1:9 turnovers per possession, also a season high.

Utah had allowed 12 made threes in two other games, Kentucky and Nevada...both losses.
The difference between this game and those games...was turnovers and three point shooting.

Utah shot 45.7% from deep 16/35, not even season highs...but 2nd best makes and 5th best percentage (9/14 vs Stanford tops)
For only the 5th time all season, Utah had less turnovers than their opponent. -4 turnovers was a season high.

The teams combined for 28/61 from deep, both season highs for a Utah game.

    Magic numbers
11 - When Utah makes 11 three pointers they are 5-0 on the season
28 - When Utah gets 28 defensive rebounds they are 12-1
14 - When Utah gets 14 assists they are 11-1
11 - When Utah commits 11 or less turnovers they are 5-0
47% - When Utah shoots 47% or better they are 12-2
36% - When Utah shoots 36% or better from three they are 13-1

The turning point was at the 6:27 mark in the first half. Utah was down 5 at 31-26. Van Dyke hit a three to cut it to 2, Utah forced 2 turnovers and 2 missed shots while on the other end Barefield hit a layup and Parker hit another three.
The lead was pushed to 7 at 40-33 with 4:28 and Utah never looked back.

Utah didn't play terrible, ball just didn't go in the hoop.

5 makes from three and 19.2% were both a season high. In an 8 point loss that means if they make 9 (team average) they win by 4.

90.9% from the free throw line 10/11 was a season high

Colorado only took 15 shots from three, but that's not their game. 17 shots in the first game.
This game was a little slow, 4 possessions less than average and the team only combined for 10 makes from three (season low)
Also combined for 24.4% from deep, also a season low for a Utah game.

Not a whole lot to this game. Colorado won this game by getting to the line +6 makes and getting Utah to miss from three.
    That's about it.

Tyler Bey played great. Scoring the 9th best efficiency of the season vs Utah. 7/10 from the field, 17 points, 10 rebounds 3 assists, 1 steal and block and only 1 turnover.

The turning point was the 10:32 point in the first half.
Utah missed nine shots, including 3 layups and within ten minutes a 14-14 game turned into a 21-14 deficit.
Utah got as close as 4 in the second half at 42-38 with 15:38 remaining but 4 more missed shots and 2 turnovers later and Colorado was up 11 at 51-40 with 11:02 remaining.
