This was a good question. I remember that Snow College had posted that he had committed there after he failed to qualify and people felt that was pretty good news that would keep him relatively close to the Utah program. After some internetting just now, he is not on the Snow College roster and I happened to find him at East LA College where he has played in two games, has two catches and two touchdowns.

On his Twitter page, his bio has him as a Ute commit and his Utah commitment edit is still pinned to the top of his page. Seems like a kid who just has a hard time getting his shit together.

From what I can ascertain from the crystal balls, we missed out on a four star RB for next year’s class. I hope they enjoy it because it will be the only victory that ASU gets to taste this week.

On another note, we did get the commitment of a kicker. So probably evens.

That picture looks like the kid put on his big brothers uniform.

    So three on offense:
I’m not super sold on Marsh, but it seems we have our QB for the class, so I’m guessing we’re looking for a RB, a OL (definitely working hard for Alex Harrison), and maybe another TE since we didn’t sign any last year.

Not confirmed yet, but not shocking. Apparently Rising hosted someone over the weekend and it went really well. I’m not even sure if it was a QB, but just putting two and two together.

If you are going to pat yourself on the back, I will too. My arm hurts, though.

I'll bet it is the kid from Ga. that Ludwig visited during the bye.

It's not the kid from Georgia. He apparently doesn't want to go so far from home. Probably the transfer from Baylor.

Running back out of Texas. Was a Arkansas commit but was looking at Utah before they fired their coach.

Third commit of the week. This one for the defensive back field. Was an ASU commit before coming to his senses.

For all two of you reading this, here is my annual look at in-state recruiting. I know, I know, concentrating on Utah is small time; we are a national brand now. But, SeattleUte, there are still excellent players that we want to get right here (or there) in Utah. So, to the 247 top ten:

    1. Noah Sewell, LB, OREGON
. This is the true gem of the in-state recruiting. He has offers from everyone (including the SEC behemoths). His brother is a freshmen on the Pac-12 runners up Ducks this year that should be anchoring the O-line for the Pac-12 champs instead. Oh well, hopefully his 2 star brother that will be in our defensive backfield shows them all up.
    2. Van Fillinger, DE. He was committed to Texas, but recently reopened his recruitment after realizing that Texas was a great football team in the 1970s. Seems like Utah is in the pole position but there is some healthy competition (primarily Michigan).
    3. Xavier Carlton, DE. It would be great to fill out the future DE position with Fillinger and Carlton. Another guy with an amazing offer list (Oregon, Ohio St, USC, etc., ect.). Utah is in the lead for his services.
    4. Nate Richie, Safety. This guy has been solidly leaning Utah for a long time. Maybe too long. Why hasn't he pulled the trigger already? He is a mormon (unlike #2 and #3), he's got some Cougar legacy stuff going on, and he goes to Lone Peak but everything ELSE makes this guy a Utah man. Oh, and ASU, Stanford, UCLA, and USC on his trail.
    5. Alex Harrison, OT. Bountiful guys always go to Utah. Unless Stanford comes calling. 247 says Utah State is in the lead, but that has to be wrong for a guy with offers from USC, Oregon, and Tennessee, right? Curse you Gary Andersen if you steal one more of our recruits!
    6. Mason Falslev, Athlete, UTAH. Thanks coach K! Anyone know if he plans to be a two-sport athlete?
    7. Sione Fotu, LB. He's got some names after him (Tennessee, Cal, UCLA) but everyone thinks he ends up a Ute.
    8. Bodie Schoonover, LB, BYU. A very BYU name, if I ever saw one. Way to go Cougs!
    9. Ioholani Raass, DE, UCLA. We didn't offer. :dunno:
    10. Josh Wilson, LB, BYU. Another SU nephew?!?!?!?! Will this blaspheming never cease?

Overall, we are in the lead for all the guys left. We're not going to get them all, but even 3, or maybe 4, would be a great haul.

I'm here too! This is a great post and I appreciate any recruiting discussions. Should be a banner year for in state recruits. The Fillinger news over the weekend was pretty exciting. I believe I saw that he will announce on 12/10. Carlton is the one I'm most excited about. I know he visited Ohio State over the weekend, so there's definitely competition. I think I remember him saying that he won't announce until after all his visits. Likely a February signing. Not sure what you're seeing regarding Alex Harrison though. This is what I see:

The 247 crystal ball has him 100% Utah. https://247sports.com/PlayerInstitut...rtPredictions/

What's the deal with the Bentley transfer? Is he the apparent starter for next season? Is he good? Does this say anything about Rising?

He probably sees Utah as an open competition with Huntley leaving and Shelly being behind Lisk, whereas he thinks Hilinski will be the starter next year at South Carolina no matter what.

I think this makes for a good compeition next year.

I think you don't transfer unless you think you have a good shot at starting. I mean, there must be a dozen P5's with a strong need at QB next season, right?

I will bet It says more about Shelley. Makes me think they anticipate that Shelley will transfer

    Utah flips a Texas RB

  21. #51
scratch--who is the guy u mentioned on cougarboard who was a strong Utah lean but will go to the Y because we are recruiting over him, and who is our recruit?

  22. #52
Likely to go to BYU: Alex Lines (although they supposedly now might not have room for another TE scholarship, even though he's rated higher than anyone currently committed to BYU).

Likely to go to Utah: Connor O'Toole.

    Update:

    1. Noah Sewell, LB, OREGON
. This is the true gem of the in-state recruiting. He has offers from everyone (including the SEC behemoths). His brother is a freshmen on the Ducks (and a consensus all-american) this year who should be anchoring the O-line for us. Oh well, hopefully his 2 star brother that will be in our defensive backfield shows them all up.
    2. Van Fillinger, DE, Utah. He was committed to Texas, but recently reopened his recruitment after realizing that Texas was a great football team in the 1970s. He's a Ute!

    7. Sione Fotu, LB, Utah. He's got some names after him (Tennessee, Cal, UCLA) but everyone thinks he ends up a Ute. And he is!
    8. Mason Cobb, LB, Oregon State. A guy that we didn't offer and Gary Anderson/Kalani stole him out from under us. (This blurb written in 2015).
    9. Bodie Schoonover, LB, BYU commit. A very BYU name, if I ever saw one. But he hasn't signed yet :nervous:
    10. Ioholani Raass, DE, UCLA. We didn't offer. :dunno:

What a Utah haul! If Noah had seen the light (and realized that Oregon was also going to sign the only LB rated higher than him in the country) it would have been a clean sweep!

Unless Oregon is going to the first 4-1-6 defense I doubt Sewell is worried about another 5 star LB. In fact, he is probably excited to share the field with him.

Utah just had a LB flip to Texas so they'll be on the lookout for another LB. I wonder if they will try to get involved with #9. Probably not--if they wanted him they would probably have targeted him already--but it would be funny.

I think the Utes have targeted Schoonover; they want him. But I hear that it's down to BYU/UCLA.

One thing I have learned in a long life: that all our science, measured against reality, is primitive and childlike -- and yet it is the most precious thing we have.

    --Albert Einstein

The fact that life evolved out of nearly nothing, some 10 billion years after the universe evolved out of literally nothing, is a fact so staggering that I would be mad to attempt words to do it justice.

    --Richard Dawkins

Be kind to all, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle.

    Third commit of the day.

“It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress.”

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
