Oregon & OSU Come to Town

A big home stand lies ahead for the Utes as they get set to host the Ducks and Beavers.

Oregon is up first on Thursday (is that game really not on TV?). They come in with a NET ranking of 66, qualifying them as a Q2 win if the Utes can get it done. They come in 3-4 in the league, and only have 4 home games left after this weekend. It is a great opportunity to get a quality win and keep them at arm's length as well.

Wayne Tinkle has done a great job with the Beavers this year, as they come in 4-3 in league play with a NET ranking of 77 (Q3). They certainly have the horses to come to SLC and win, but this again would be a big time opportunity for the Utes to put some distance between themselves and a close-in-the-standings foe (understanding of course that there are 9 games yet to play after this).

Getting out of this weekend 7-2 in league play would be huge for the back half of the season, especially given the other games on the docket - We know Arizona/ASU will take a 4th loss this week, and the SoCal schools both travel to Washington, so a good possibility of each of them losing as well. Big opportunity for the team.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Ah, ok. ESPN didn't list a network when I looked before.

Why did Oregon get the ball after the injury? It should have been a foul on the guy who tried to hurdle Jace.

The shitty thing about this game is that we have more talent than Oregon

This team is like a Stanford from last year. We have 5 conference wins and 4 of them are versus the bottom 4 in the league

I don’t know about us having more talent. That seems like bias. Regardless, Dana Altman just owns Larry Krystkowiak. Owns him. I don’t care if we played their women’s team coached by Altman, Oregon would win. Altman is a better coach by a long ways. We lose to Oregon every time and wherever, whatever the context. And usually it isn’t close. I think I’m more weary of Krsystkowiak losing to Altman every single cotton pickin time he plays him than any other structural disappointment with this program. I want a coach who can beat Altman 50% of the time; no sometimes is enough. That’s all I ask.

That’s not big-picture thinking. Let’s not forget that if Bol Bol is healthy, we don’t have more talent and we likely lose by 15-20. Also, talent doesn’t turn the ball over 19 times. I do agree with your overall premise that we are better than we showed tonight.

The frustrating mystery of this team.

If Gach were already the player we need him to become, he'd have done to Oregon what Richardson did to us - drive the ball and finish at the rim.

I'm sure everyone thought Jones would provide the ball handling and passing we need, but he hasn't.
Oregon (like UW) has great length and speed at every position and Utah has to counter with Jaylon Johnson, Riley Battin and Van Dyke. I love those guys but its an unfair fight.

What's even more frustrating is that even with the horrific first half we were only down 8...and then just collapsed in the last minute.
