    2019 NFL Draft

We are a mere two months away from the NFL draft! What Utes are likely to be picked?

    - Marquise Blair: I've seen him generally listed as a 3-5 round pick. Should be the first Ute off the board. I would be overjoyed by this result. Couldn't happen to a nastier hitter.
    - Jackson Barton: He's being listed as a late round/FA type guys. That's a little bit of a let-down for how much of a heralded recruit he was, but still pretty great.
    - Chase Hanson: Wild prediction swings, anywhere from early 3rd round to not being picked. The injury (and doubt about whether or not he can compete at the combine) definitely affects the differing predictions.

Anyone else you expect/hope to be drafted?

I'm a bit surprised, though I admit I don't know the NFL metrics very well. Chase terrorized every offense he played against this season.

I've heard Cody Barton has a legit shot to be drafted and I think Agasiva could also be a late round/FA type. I also don't know why some NFL team wouldn't jump at the chance to get Matt Gay, but most kickers go the FA route and I've long been mystified by the lack of real opportunities for Utah's great specialists going back to Louie. (Same could be said for Wishnowsky, but I think I'd place a higher premium on Gay if I were a GM).

If Cody Barton is drafted and Jackson is not, that will be a huge shock to 2014 Applejack who was over the moon to have landed Jackson but decidedly meh about younger brother.

The biggest reason Utah’s kickers haven’t gotten long NFL shots was their lack of leg strength or one dimensional nature. Because of the 53 man roster teams don’t want someone who only does one thing.

Andy Phillips and Tom Hackett’s inability to kick off hurts them both. Hackett also struggled at the regular punt.

Both Gay and Wish can kickoff, and Wish can also hold. That makes them more valuable. Wish also can straight up punt. They’ve got the best shots of any of our kickers.
