Thread: Utes in the NFL

  1. #181
Supposedly their #2 QB last year, Christian Stewart, said that after the USU game the team was seriously deflated, knowing their destiny was to play in the Miami Beach Bowl, or whatever that game was.

They have a depth problem, for sure, but they also have really serious issues with trying to convince themselves and their fans that independence is an acceptable reality. The way their fanbase has turned on Bronco reveals a fundamental anger, and Bronco's body language, and the way the Oregon State job was filled, and now going shooting a blank in the NFL draft...no Bueno.

It looks like Bronco's latest faux pas was declare "P5 or bust within 3 years". (This guy is the Inspector Clouseau of PR, one for the text books, for sure).

Then the Big-12 commissioner (?) revealed that Sunday play wasn't an issue with the Big-12 because BYU never got that far in the conversation.

All of these things are cold, objective facts, and it's seriously starting to sink in. Even Dick Harmon is going from being delusional with optimism to basically bracing for a brutal September... but now there's no conference race to fall back onto as a secondary goal.

Interesting situation developing in San Diego with Eric Weddle's deal: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-in-san-diego/

Sounds more and more like his days there are numbered...but you'd have to think there will be a pretty good market out there for one of the top Safeties in the game.
“It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress.”

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I'm having a hard time following what his agent is saying here (what the ellipsis omitted would maybe be helpful):

“He will play his final 16 games as a Charger as a free safety – nothing else,” agent David Canter said. “His going above and beyond for them is why they won’t give him a contract extension. . . .

“It’s blatantly obvious after me asking the team time and again to extend us that Eric isn’t wanted. So it’s time for Eric to move on [to] where he can win and is wanted.”

Steve Smith to hang 'em up at the end of this season. What an incredible run he has had.

With cuts coming this week we'll start to get some interesting Ute related news. One story I read noted that Miami cut a guy which basically signaled that Sam Brenner will be the backup Center there.

Joe Krugar cut by the Steelers.

From what I can tell, he and Murphy are the only ones not to survive the cuts to 75.

Three Utes started for Miami today vs. Washington. Brice McCain had a nice pick to seal the victory for the fish, and Koa Misi and Derrick Shelby were all over the place.

Steve Smith moved into 9th on the all time WR yardage list yesterday, and then tore his Achilles. Many felt that would be his last snap (no pun intended) in the NFL, but no so according to reports:

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/...hilles-surgery

Ravens star receiver Steve Smith has scheduled a quick surgery on Nov. 9 with intentions of playing football next season, sources said. Smith's season ended Sunday when he tore his Achilles tendon in the Ravens' victory against the Chargers.

Smith had said this would be his final season but several people close to him said he is already talking about a return and the Ravens would welcome him back. Smith faces a long return, but the sooner he gets the Achilles repaired the earlier he could conceivably make it back in 2016. Dr. Andrews, an esteemed surgeon, is scheduled to conduct the repair in Charlotte next week.

Smith was again having a strong season for the Ravens and was by far Joe Flacco's top receiving threat and he is beloved in that locker room. Smith was obviously distraught after suffering the injury Sunday.

He did not want the struggling Ravens to deal him prior to this week's trade deadline -- team brass would not even entertain the thought though other clubs inquired -- and said he would only play for the Ravens. Smith was in his second season with the team ‎and was making $3M this season and is signed for 2017 at $3M as well, which is the final year of a three-year deal he signed with Baltimore after ending his long tenure with the Panthers.
“It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress.”

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Such a brutal injury to come back from. But if there's anyone that can muscle through it...

    Utes in the League

(There's probably already another thread for Utes in the NFL, but I didn't see it.)

Kaelin Clay just took a punt back 82 yards for the Ravens vs the Browns on MNF, after being signed 2 weeks ago, as a punt returner.

"Clay had 3 punt returns for touchdowns in the PAC-12, for the Utes, last year" - Mike Tirico, ESPN, 11/30/2015

Thank you, Kaelin, for that nice little PAC-mas flashback.

So I said to David Eckstein, "You promised me, Eckstein, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life, there have only been one set of prints in the sand. Why, when I have needed you most, have you not been there for me?" David Eckstein replied, "Because my little legs had gotten tired, and you were carrying me." And I looked down and saw that I was still carrying David Eckstein.

“It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress.”

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Well, that ended on an incredibly sour note....

It will be great to see him sign with a legitimate organization. Perhaps Denver, or any NFC team.
